WRUW-FM 91.1 CLEVELAND TO HOST TELETHON APRIL 9th – APRIL 15th, 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WRUW TELETHON: Helping Raise Funds for 45th Birthday and many more to come
Following up a ground breaking Telethon in 2011, WRUW-FM looks to raise money during our week-long fundraising celebration from April 9th to April 15th, 2012. Not only does this year celebrate our listeners and their contributions to the continued longevity of the station, but it also commemorate our 45th Birthday this Feb. 26th, the 10 year anniversary of our power increase to 15,000 watts, and the 36th Annual Studio-A-Rama… all of which we have spent with you, and members of the Cleveland and world-wide community.
CLEVELAND, Ohio (February 27, 2012) — Telethon is the one time of the year that we at WRUW-FM ask you, our listeners, for a monetary contribution in order to help us run our non-profit, college radio outlet, all year ‘round. Supported in part by Case Western Reserve University, over half of our operating costs are provided by our listeners from money raised during the Telethon season.
This year, from April 9th to April 15th we will be doing a little “begging” and asking for money to make our 45th Birthday the best in history and to keep our legacy here in Cleveland strong. All donations are tax-deductible and as a thank-you, pledge amounts at the $50, $60, $100 levels and up will receive a once-a-year Telethon-only premium so that each donor can have a chance to represent WRUW on more than just the radio dial.
Premiums this year will range from our ever popular pint glasses to a special 45th Anniversary T-shirt designed by Stone Cold Bikini programmer, Christine. Music premiums from a variety of genres will be available again this year as well. Individual programmers will have special premiums unique to their show including Tri-C Jazz Festival tickets, gift certificates to area music venues and businesses, and much more. Stay updated about all of the WRUW swag offered during Telethon on our website: www.wruw.org. It will be updated in the coming weeks with a full list of premiums offered.
Your donation helps to fund the purchase and maintenance of technical equipment, including equipment in our on-air studios, digitizing department, and music equipment used on Live From Cleveland and in remote broadcasts. Your donation also helps us to maintain phone lines, purchase new music for our library, maintain our digital library, and finance FREE events such as Studio-A-Rama. This year, your Telethon dollar will also help us to promote WRUW-FM more than ever around town as we celebrate our 45th Birthday with friends in our community. Join us for a variety of free events that we’ll host throughout this year. However, we can only do it with your assistance!
How can you donate? During the week of April 9th through the 15th you can call in to (216) 368-2208 at any time, or during your favorite radio shows to make a secure donation by phone. Who knows which WRUW celebrity DJ will answer your call! Each of our volunteer programmers is required to staff two rounds or more each on the lines during Telethon. If you like listening, but not talking, you can also donate online at WWW.WRUW.ORG starting April 9th.
If you are looking to help us in ways other than contributing by telephone pledge or via our website, please consider reaching out to the contacts below to help us spread the word about all of the new and exciting programs we have planned for our 45th, as well as the traditions we continue to provide for the community, such as Telethon, Studio-A-Rama, the National Homelessness Marathon, Live From Cleveland and the broadcast of portions of the Hessler Street Fair and The Cleveland Museum of Art’s Summer Solstice Festival.
WRUW FM is quirky, eclectic, and most importantly our knowledgeable programmers love the music they broadcast. This year, “we’re 45 and still spinning” thanks to the tax-deductible donations of those in the immediate community and around the world! With your help, we can make sure that we won’t slow down for years to come.
